Guidelines for Providers

Continuing Education Providers for the Clinical Laboratory are encouraged to have their popular "live" presentations converted to an electronic, online format, which eliminates geographical boundaries. Med TechNet will help you every step of the way to bring your presentation online. Simply read the guidelines below, then fill out the following form to submit your preliminary application. The form may be submitted electronically, or Mailed or Fax'ed. After careful review, we will call you to discuss your proposal and the details of filing a complete application. Submitting the following form does not obligate you in any way; it merely begins the approval process.

All electronic, online presentations approved by Med TechNet, are produced through Med TechNet Online Services. As such, Med TechNet is responsible for all administrative tasks associated with each presentation, including, participant registration, account maintenance, post-quiz scoring and record archiving (5 years). Approved providers are responsible for the educational content and structure of a program, and must adhere to the following guidelines:

  1. Instructors must be competent in the subject matter by education, training or experience.
  2. The content of a presentation must be relevant to the clinical laboratory, focusing on a discipline (hematology, chemistry, etc.), education, management or supervision.
  3. Each program submitted for approval must have clearly stated and measurable educational objectives.
  4. The provider must utilize instructional strategies that are consistent with and directly supportive of the stated educational objectives.
  5. Online presentations require a minimum of one (1) contact hour, and are to be measured in whole hours. Fractions of hours less than 50 minutes are rounded down (discarded). Total contact time includes a fair estimate of the time necessary to read and understand the presentation, work any exercises (if applicable), plus the time required for participation in the online discussion.
  6. All presentations require a post-test. Pre-tests are optional and are left to the discretion of each provider. Test (quiz) questions must be submitted along with the completed presentation, indicating relevancy to the stated objectives. The final post-test that is placed online must also include additional questions relating to the online discussion; these questions must be received by Med TechNet no later than one (1) week before the end of the presentation.
  7. Med TechNet electronically scores the tests in "real-time", providing each participant with immediate feedback. The provider will also be sent copies of each quiz (responses and final score).
  8. Each provider must complete and sign a Provider Preliminary/Summary Data Sheet (see below) and a full Online CE Application.
  9. If a program is to issue credits in the state of California, providers (and therefore, as the delivery medium, Med TechNet) must allow, at no cost, employees of the California Department of Health Services to register for a presentation for the purposes of monitoring the program for compliance with continuing education regulations.
  10. At the completion of each program, the provider must issue (by First Class, US Mail, or better) a signed certificate of performance for each participant, which includes:

    a. Participant's Name.

    b. Provider's Name and Address.

    c. Agency (Med TechNet) Name and Address.

    d. Title of the Online Presentation.

    e. Number of Contact Hours Earned.

    f. Date of Completion.

    g. Signature of Instructor and/or a Provider Authority.

  11. A standardized course evaluation is completed by each participant along with their post-quiz. Additional items may be added to this survey by the provider if deemed necessary. In any case, the provider will receive copies of all evaluations at the conclusion of each program.
